Generating Valuable Back Links with Blogs

One of today’s most prominent tools for sharing news and information is the blog.  It seems like everybody has one -- a site where they journal about their day-to-day adventures,  travels, business expertise, hobbies, or other subjects of interest.  Not only are blogs a big part of social media, but they also have a significant role to play when it comes to search engine optimization and link building.  There are many ways websites can use blogs to improve their standings and achieve prominence in organic search engine results.

The easiest way to see results from the benefits of blogging is to set up a blog either as part of your current website or separately, so that others can read more about your product, service, specialty or area of expertise.  A good professional blog will contain advice for newbies in your field, suggestions for established businesses, appropriate product reviews, and other relevant information.

Naturally, you can link back to your site from your blog.  You can also use your blog to link out to other useful websites, either by setting up a sidebar containing extra resources or by sharing information about sites you have discovered within the posts on your blog.  Likely, web masters will discover that you have linked to them, and if they like what you wrote, they may be inclined to link back to what you had to say, generating back links for your blog and direct traffic for your other sites.

You can also use your blog for back links by posting informative articles and using a service like Digg.com to promote them.  This will improve your credibility as an author and expert in your field, put some information out there so that you can be "found," and encourage others to link to you when talking about the same subject.

On the flip side, you can also generate valuable back links by getting other bloggers to link to you.  As we covered in this article on content writing, one of the best ways to get others to link to you is by providing quality content and useful information that other webmasters and writers will be inclined to share.  However, it can take some time and some exposure for your site before that will begin happening.

Instead, consider researching bloggers who are already writing about a subject that correlates to the content on your own site.  Contribute authentic, helpful comments on their blogs, and contact them privately to let them know about your site and see if they are interested in using some of your information in exchange for a link back.  If they respond favorably, you may even consider offering a small payment in exchange for a review.  Many well-ranking blogs receive quite a bit of traffic and are seen as respected sources on Google and other search engines, so back links from these sites can be extremely valuable.

If you lack the time and effort needed to contact individual bloggers to ask for short reviews or link exchanges, you may also want to consider using a blog advertising service. These services specialize in advertising on blogs, and they will do the legwork for you, charging a reasonable fee in exchange for getting relevant bloggers to link to your website.  Whether you obtain blog links on your own or through a professional advertising service, a steady stream of blog postings that link to your site can be a terrific way to improve your rankings and boost your placement in organic search results for your targeted keywords.

Whatever you do, don't neglect to consider the infinite power of blogging when developing a link building campaign for your web site!
